How we score SEO agencies in Malaysia
The short version
Every business in Malaysia SEO Agency Guide gets a composite score from 0 to 100. We currently score 198 SEO agencies. The score comes from five measured signals, each with a fixed weight. Nothing else goes in, and nobody adjusts the result by hand.
Who publishes this
The directory is published by Meridian Guides, which has run independent city directories for everyday services across Malaysia since 2025. The rankings are maintained by Janice, Editor, who oversees the method and the monthly refresh. Rankings are built on a published scoring method and real customer reviews, and they are not sold to the highest bidder.
The five signals, heaviest first
| Signal | Weight | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Sentiment | 28% | Synthesis of recent review themes: praise versus complaints |
| Rating | 26% | Google aggregate star rating |
| Volume | 20% | How many reviews, log-scaled |
| Completeness | 14% | Whether phone, website, hours and address are listed |
| Recency | 12% | How recently customers reviewed |
Sentiment (28%)
This is the heaviest weight, on purpose. A star average hides patterns. Two agencies can both sit at 4.6 stars, yet one keeps collecting the same complaint: reports that never arrive, rankings that slip after the contract starts, or a account manager who stops replying. Only reading what recent reviews actually say catches that. We look for repeated themes, good and bad, and score the balance.
Rating (26%)
The Google star average is a useful, widely understood baseline. It is the second heaviest signal, but it is a blunt one, which is why it sits below sentiment.
Volume (20%)
More reviews mean a more reliable picture. We scale volume logarithmically, so going from 5 to 50 reviews counts for much more than going from 500 to 545. A handful of reviews does not equal hundreds.
Completeness (14%)
We check that a phone number, website, opening hours and address are listed. For an SEO agency, a missing website or address is a fair reason to ask more questions before you sign anything.
Recency (12%)
SEO teams change. A great run of reviews from several years ago says little about who is doing the work now, so recent reviews count for more.
Honest limits
- Low-confidence scores. A business with few recent reviews gets a score we label as low confidence. Treat it as a rough guide.
- We synthesise, not republish. We summarise review themes in our own words and link out to Google so you can read the source reviews yourself.
- Reviews are not results. A score reflects customer experience. It cannot prove that an agency will lift your rankings, so ask for case studies and references.
Scores are never edited
Scores are earned from this rubric and this data only. They are never edited. Paid placement, when it exists, is always labelled and never changes the score. If a list's picks or order were reviewed by an editor, that list says so on the page itself.
Keeping data current
Data is refreshed monthly. Each listing carries a "last verified" stamp, so you can see when it was last checked.

FAQ
- Can an agency pay to improve its score?
- No. Scores come only from the published rubric and measured data. Paid placement, when it exists, is labelled and never changes the score.
- What does a low-confidence label mean?
- The business has few recent reviews, so its score rests on thin evidence. We still show it, but we flag it so you do not over-read it.
- Do you copy Google reviews onto the site?
- No. We synthesise review themes in our own words and link to Google, where you can read the original reviews.
- How often is the data updated?
- Monthly. Each listing shows a last verified stamp so you can see when it was last checked.
